Taylor Swift and Colbie Caillat at the BMI's Pop Awards

Taylor keeps close to her co-writer pal Colbie Caillat at BMI’s 57th Annual Pop Awards held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills on Tuesday evening (May 19).

The 19-year-old musician looked angelic in a white Cynthia Steffe dress and nude Christian Louboutin peep-toes.

In addition to earning a BMI Pop Award for her crossover hit “Teardrops on My Guitar,” Taylor also received the BMI President’s Award, which honors an exceptional individual in the entertainment industry deserving of special recognition.

We got country superstar (and Blender cover girl) Taylor Swift on the phone yesterday and she gave us some fresh details about her in-progress new album, including info about a track written with one of her favorite female chart-toppers. In her own words:

"This whole week we've been recording the second album. I'm writing everything, just like the first album, but I'm doing less co-writing because if you get an idea while on tour in Arkansas there's usually not a co-writer around! Tell us about your rise to fame.

“A year and a half ago my good friend made me a MySpace page. He uploaded a few of my songs and I would start to get friend requests and more plays everyday. It slowly started to grow, my friends would hear it add it to their page, then their friends would add it to their page and it spread outward. It was really cool because at that point I was able to respond to every one of my fans who would write me messages saying for example, ‘Oh my gosh your song means so much to me, its helping me through this relationship or there are things going on in my life and I put on your songs when I get home from work and it makes me feel better,’ and it’s very cool because I could get an actual reaction to the songs and see if people liked them or not.”
