On the actors she swoons over: “You’ve seen him [Gerard Butler] in P.S. I Love You, right? My favorite. I bawled my eyes out. She [Scarlett Johansson] is, honestly, the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen. I went to He’s Just Not That into You with Justin [Gaston], and I was covering his eyes.”

On not crushing on Robert Pattinson: “I’m not a huge Rob Pattinson fan. Girls aren’t really in love with Rob; they’re in love with Edward.”

On not working with good friends Taylor Swift or Demi Lovato: “Demi and I are the most alike; I’m anti-drama. I like to keep my friendship separate, otherwise, competition starts.”

On believing in love at first sight: “I believe in love at first sight. It just hasn’t happened to me. I walked right by him [Justin, the first time she saw him]. Love doesn’t come from attraction, but from somewhere deeper. [Justin] is my best friend.”

On the price of fame: “I used to get so frustrated. For a while, I felt like I was completely lost in celebrity-land. I didn’t know how to handle it. Now I know that I have to plot where I’m going, when I’m going there and where the back entrance is. It’s like I’m playing a giant game of tag.”

On his home life: “My parents really kept us anchored. “I played sports on weekends — baseball, basketball — and when I sucked at those, I started playing golf and ping-pong in the garage. After I lost interest, I started singing. I was always singing to the point where my parents would shout, ‘Shut up, Zac! Enough already!’ I wasn’t a genius like some of my friends who slacked off and got A’s, but I was a hard worker. I always give 100%.”

On his future in show biz: “I’m definitely not the best actor in the world at this point. But hopefully, with time and effort and smart decisions, that will change.”

On putting personal emotions in her songs: “Writing songs about people is the only way I know how to do things. I mean, I can’t wish I hadn’t written a song about someone, because if I hadn’t, that song wouldn’t exist. I just don’t find any joy in writing about things I haven’t been through.”

On the subjects she likes to write about: “Right now, my favorite thing to write about is love. And breakups. And boys. And feelings. Honesty is a big part of my writing, because when I was younger and fell in love with songs I’d hear, I would always wonder who that song was about. It would have totally broken my heart to know it wasn’t about anyone and was just written so it could be on the radio.”

On who she considers her best friends: “In Nashville, it’s Abigail [who's mentioned in Taylor's song "Fifteen"], and Kellie Pickler. In L.A., Selena Gomez is one of my best friends. I’m also really close with Miley [Cyrus], Demi Lovato, and Emma Stone.”
