http://www.dayofsilence.org/
The National Day of Silence brings attention to anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying and harassment in schools. This year’s event will be held in memory of Lawrence King, a California 8th-grader who was shot and killed Feb. 12 by a classmate because of his sexual orientation and gender expression. Hundreds of thousands of students will come together on April 25 to encourage schools and classmates to address the problem of anti-LGBT behavior.

Fergie's new song Labels or Love
Fergie’s new song “Labels or Love,” is the new Sex and the City movie theme song.
“I grew up watching Sex and the City and I know a lot of my girlfriends did as well,” says Fergie. “We felt like these characters were our friends, so to be a part of this project has been amazing.”
But her real wish is to create a music video for this song! Adds Fergie, “‘I would die to do a video with the girls.”
“Labels or Love” will be included in the film, out May 30, and in the Sex and the City: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, out May 27.

Ashlee Simpon on the cover of Shape
Ashlee Simpson is sexy on the June 2008 cover of Shape.
“I never thought I’d be on the cover of a magazine in a bikini,” the 23-year-old singer tells the mag. “I try to listen to what my body craves. Sometime it tells me to eat more fruit, but sometimes it tells me to eat Skittles!”
When asked how she says in such great shape, Ashlee said, “Exercising makes me feel stronger and sexier. It just makes my whole day better. I have more energy to perform, my head is clearer—which helps me write my lyrics—and I sleep better. What more can you ask for? …I love it when my arms are toned, so we use weights to target them—and we do lunges to give my small butt more shape.”

Part 2 of the Avril Lavigne Just Jared interview
JJ: What’s the musical direction of your next album? How are you evolving musically?
AL: I would like to sit and and write some acoustic stuff. That’s what I want to do but that doesn’t mean that’s what my record is gonna be. It means creatively, that’s what I want so I need to do that for myself and then I’ll just see. I don’t know, I cant really tell. I’m just touring for six more months and so your body goes through cycles and change so I have no idea.
JJ: Your clothing line, Abbey Dawn, was a nickname from your dad? How did he get that nickname?
AL: He worked in Kingston, and it was like a street name or something. It was this area called Abbey Dawn and I don’t know. He just called me Abbey and Abbey Dawn. All my friends in high school called me Abbey, and when I first started out, my alias name was always Abbey Dawn in my hotel rooms, so it was something that stuck with me my entire life. I always used to think if I had a girl I’d called her Abbey but now I have a clothing lined that I call Abbey…
JJ: What’s your favorite thing you like to do with [Sum 41 husband Deryck Whibley]?
AL: Just chill and be at home [in LA].
JJ: On the road, what’s your favorite junk food?
AL: Yea, when I go through Canada, I get ketchup chips and dill pickle chips because it’s Canadian. And then, I like to be really healthy though because being a singer, you can’t really get sick or you won’t be able to sing. Like, I’m sick right now unfortunately.
JJ: Do you have a personal chef? What do you do for food all the time?
AL: No, my bus is really decked out. We have a huge fridge and stove and all that. Basically I just get up and eat a salad. I have a kitchen so I’ll just make what I want. We have catering too, so we’ll just send someone to get me a salad or vegetables. I have a steamer on my bus too, so I’ll steam veggies. I totally go through my thing where I’m like super healthy, but then I go through my phases where I’m like “Okay, I’m gonna pig out.”
JJ: How far are you from having kids?
AL: Oh, like 10 years…I don’t see that for a very long time. I have lots that I want to do.
JJ: I don’t believe that! What’s your favorite movie?
AL: Well, I have a whole bunch. I like Home Alone, that was like my favorite movie for a long time. I like Girl, Interrupted a lot.
JJ: And what are your favorite websites that you frequent?
AL: Just Jared! (laughs) I don’t go on the Internet very much. I do check out Myspace, and other people’s MySpaces. But every time I’m on the Internet, I’m looking
for information or recipes. I like downloading songs.

Just Jared interviews Avril Lavigne
Just Jared (plus entourage) went to see Avril Lavigne in concert earlier this month at Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York. And it was crazy fun from start to finish! The whole night was crazy from start to finish, so I didn’t have time to chat with Avril then. But on Friday, Avril phoned up with Just Jared for a little heart-to-heart. Thanks to all my awesome readers who sent in their hundreds of questions. I asked her a few of them!
JJ: How did you spend those two days in NYC?
AL: I got a tattoo! I got a star on my [right] forearm, and Allie, my friend got like a little tattoo too. Avril’s new star tattoo)
JJ: What else did you do in the Big Apple?
AL: We just got our nails done and went shopping and then just partied and went to Koi. Because I’ve been on the road, I haven’t had sushi in for so long.
JJ: What number tattoo is this for you?
AL: Seven?
JJ: How do crowds react differently in different parts of the States, or even the world?
AL: Every crowd is so different, from different countries, There are some crowds that are really over the top–like Paris. It’s like a moshpit. Europe is always crazy, the fans are just insane. The European lifestyle is to let go and be free. No one holds back so the concerts are always a hundred times more louder and intense…it’s totally different there.
I also play in South America, so I went to Brazil on my last tour and that was like crazy also. And then Asia. They’re really amazing over there. They’re really funny because they’re really quiet and reserved. Like in Japan, in between songs, they’ll be really quiet. Or if you’re playing a slow song they’ll be really quiet. But then when I play something like “Sk8er Boi”, they’re like bopping everywhere. So its really different everywhere, but I like that. It’s kinda neat to see.
JJ: How did the last tour differ from the current tour? How did you prepare differently?
AL: I didn’t even prepare for my last tour. I just went on tour and played my songs. Every night, I was always taking notes on my last tour and videotaping the show and sitting down and trying to make it better. This time, I started planning this tour and the tour treatment a year before the tour started. I was thinking about what set list, what covers to play, what kind of crowd stuff I wanna do. I knew I wanted to play the drums, so I was like, ‘What song am I gonna play it on?’
I prepared the treatment in a [Microsoft] Word document and then I brought in set director Jamie King. I just gave him my set list and told him what I wanted to do and he helped me make it all happen. Before my tour, I was really young, so I didn’t really know what worked. Like, I always had my voice, so I would just go onstage and sing but now my thing is I really want to be a good performer, not just a singer.
JJ: Who do you like seeing on tour yourself?
AL: Green Day was really good. I think Sum 41 is really good live. Of course I went and saw the Spice Girls. I don’t get out to a ton of concerts, but I like to if I can.
JJ: How do you manage your personal relationships such as your marriage while you’re touring?
AL: It’s all about the Blackberry, texting, email and Skype…
JJ: How did touring with the Jonas brothers come about? Was it your idea? Management?
AL: Well I’m only doing eight shows with them. Right now, my North American tour is two and a half months, so I’m doing that just with Boys Like Girls. And then I go to Europe for two months. I could be wrong but I’m kinda helping The Jonas Brothers out by introducing them over there. We’re gonna do eight shows there together.

Kelly Clarkson sings Ave Maria to the Pope
Kelly sings a rousing rendition of the hymn “Ave Maria” for Pope Benedict XVI at Saint Joseph Seminary in Yonkers, New York on Saturday.
About 25,000 young worshippers rallied for the Popemobile (and Kelly).
“I was so excited to be asked to sing for the Pope,” Kelly. “I grew up singing church music, and it’s always been a dream of mine to perform ‘Ave Maria.’ To have that dream come true on such a special occasion is truly a blessing.”
